I won’t reveal what that plot turn is, but as we’ve seen in other recent action or genre films, it makes the Bourne “universe,” such as it is, much smaller. As its generic title indicates, Jason Bourne is a clichéd, tired mash-up of devices and plot points from the three previous films that starred Damon (including 2002’s Doug Liman-directed The Bourne Identity and 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy), with thinner supporting characters than usual and a new wrinkle to the mythology that, if anything, dilutes the power of the original Jason Bourne characterization. Greengrass is also back behind the camera for Jason Bourne, implying that the team could work the same magic again that made their previous Bourne outings such a hit. But with the poor reception afforded the 2012 “sidequel” The Bourne Legacy (starring Jeremy Renner as Cross, a more sci-fi version of Bourne), and Damon himself on a bit of a cold streak with some of his recent films, it was probably inevitable that he would once again don the role of the memory-strapped former CIA assassin. Unfortunately, due to excessive violence, which features a few very bloody scenes, and strong language, we are prevented from awarding the film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. It’s been nine years since we last saw Matt Damon in the role of Jason Bourne and Paul Greengrass directing him in 2007’s thrilling The Bourne Ultimatum. The acting is terrific, especially that of Damon, Jones, Cassel and Vikander. When Bourne learns a secret involving Asset and Bourne’s deceased father, he is determined to get Asset instead. A cold-hearted assassin named Asset (Vincent Cassel) is set to take him out.

She secretly begins to help Bourne - and he will need it. A new agent, Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander), catches on to the fact that Dewey is far from clean. agent named Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) trying to take out Bourne before he learns a few secrets that Dewey would rather him not find out.

The plot is intriguing, with a dirty C.I.A. On a positive note, the locales of the film include the Greek-Albanian border, London, Germany, Rome, Iceland and Vegas. In one scene that takes place in an apartment, between Bourne (Matt Damon) and another man, the camera literally shakes for no apparent reason. Unfortunately, I found the jerky camera movements and the “personal camera” that follows characters to be a bit annoying.

It includes car chases, crashes, fights, assassins, political intrigue, computer hacking, a secret on a flash drive, and a few surprises along the way. For lovers of the series, this installment features everything that made the Bourne films popular. “Jason Bourne” is fast-paced and action-packed.
